Associate Attorney – Medical Malpractice Defense (Entry-Level)

Pay: $90,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year

Location: Hybrid remote in Seattle, WA 98104

Job Summary

JGKMW is seeking an associate attorney to join our Seattle office. Our firm focuses on defending healthcare providers against claims of medical malpractice and responding to investigations from state medical and nursing licensing boards.

For nearly 50 years, JGKMW has represented healthcare professionals throughout the Pacific Northwest and has earned recognition for excellence from state and national organizations that evaluate legal talent.

This position is designed for newly licensed attorneys and early-career associates who are interested in developing a litigation and trial practice. We offer hands-on experience, substantial mentorship, and direct exposure to all phases of litigation while working alongside highly experienced trial attorneys.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research – JGKMW provides a premium Westlaw subscription including Westlaw Advantage AI and CoCounsel
  • Draft pleadings, motions, and discovery responses
  • Review and analyze medical records
  • Meet with clients, witnesses, and expert witnesses
  • Assist with depositions and hearings
  • Prepare reports to claims professionals
  • Support attorneys in all phases of litigation
  • Prepare trial briefs, jury instructions, motions in limine, and other pre-trial documents
  • Assist at trial and develop courtroom advocacy skills
  • Manage multiple assignments while meeting deadlines

Requirements

  • Active Washington State Bar License or pending admission
  • Strong legal writing, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Interest in litigation and trial practice

Preferred Qualifications

  • Judicial clerkship experience
  • Moot court, mock trial, or law review participation
  • Experience in healthcare or science-related fields
  • Familiarity with ProLaw

For nearly 50 years, JGKMW has represented healthcare professionals throughout the Pacific Northwest and has earned recognition for excellence from state and national organizations that evaluate legal talent.

We are seeking an associate attorney to assist in all aspects of litigation, including managing discovery, motion practice, working with expert witnesses, taking and defending depositions, and assisting in trial. We offer a hybrid work environment along with strong mentorship and training from highly experienced trial attorneys.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal research – JGKMW provides a premium Westlaw subscription including Westlaw Advantage AI and CoCounsel
  • Draft and respond to written discovery
  • Review and analyze medical records
  • Meet with clients, witnesses, and expert witnesses
  • Prepare reports to claims professionals
  • Take and defend depositions
  • Draft and argue motions
  • Prepare trial briefs, jury instructions, motions in limine, and other pre-trial documents
  • Assist at trial as second chair, with opportunities to advance into first-chair responsibilities
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring deadlines are met

Requirements

  • Active Washington State Bar License
  • Minimum three (3) years of litigation experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and case management skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications

  • Admission to, or ability to obtain admission to, the Alaska Bar
  • Experience in healthcare, medical malpractice, insurance defense, or professional liability litigation
  • Experience with ProLaw
